Traditional Texas Colonels
In history we found many accounts of the Texas Colonel. It was a title bestowed upon gentleman for the first time in the middle of the 1800's by Governor Sam Houston who commissioned Little Barry Camp an honorary colonel. Both Governor Alan Shivers and Governor Daniel J. Moody bestowed the commission to a great number of people during the 20th century.
Of course there was also the very well known Colonel Edward M. House who became adviser to President Woodrow Wilson. As it appears since the late 1950's the State of Texas has replaced the award of Honorary Colonel with other awards.
